Cookies Policy
Last updated
This Cookies Policy explains how Common Thread Advisors uses cookies and similar technologies on our website, and why we've kept this list short. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal information more broadly.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website can place on your device. They're used for things like remembering your preferences, keeping you logged in, or tracking how you use a site across visits. “Similar technologies” covers things like local storage, tracking pixels, and third-party embeds that behave the same way.
2. Our approach
We've deliberately kept cookies to a minimum on this site:
- Our website analytics tool, PostHog, runs in cookieless mode. It doesn't set cookies, doesn't persist anything across sessions, and doesn't build a profile of you.
- Some of our forms use Zoho CRM’s embedded form. If you accept cookies, Zoho sets an analytics cookie that counts visits to the form and form submissions. If you decline, Zoho doesn’t set it, and you can still submit the form.
- Where we embed video, we use Mux, which doesn't use tracking cookies the way some video platforms do.
- Some of our forms may use a spam-prevention tool such as reCAPTCHA, which may set a cookie.
Because of this, most of what happens on our site doesn't require cookie consent. Where a cookie is set, for example by Zoho's form widget or a CAPTCHA, you'll see a cookie banner when you visit our site, letting you choose whether to accept it.
3. What we use, and what we don't
| Technology | What it's for | Sets a cookie? | Requires consent? |
|---|---|---|---|
| PostHog (analytics) | Understanding how the site is used, in aggregate | No (cookieless mode) | No |
| Zoho CRM (website forms) | Collecting form submissions and counting visits to and submissions of our forms | Yes, an analytics cookie, only if you accept cookies | Yes |
| Zoho (email) | Sending you requested content, newsletters, event confirmations and follow-ups | Not a website cookie. Our emails may include a tracking pixel and tracked links that show whether you opened or clicked | See our Privacy Policy |
| Mux (video) | Playing embedded video on our site | No tracking cookies | No |
| CAPTCHA/reCAPTCHA (Google) | Preventing spam and bot submissions on some forms | Yes, when active on a form | Yes |
If our developers do introduce a strictly necessary cookie (for example, to protect a form against cross-site request forgery), it would fall under the “strictly necessary” exemption and wouldn't require consent, but we'll list it here for transparency where necessary.
4. Links to other sites
Our website may display our own LinkedIn posts. We pull this content periodically and store it on our side, rather than using LinkedIn's live embed or widget. Because we're not loading anything from LinkedIn directly in your browser, this doesn't set any cookies from LinkedIn.
5. How to control cookies
Where a cookie requires your consent (for example, an analytics cookie on our forms or a CAPTCHA), you can accept or decline it through the cookie banner when you first visit our site. Declining doesn’t stop you using our forms. You can also delete cookies or block them in your browser settings.
6. Changes to this Policy
If we introduce a new tool or feature that sets cookies requiring consent, we'll update this Policy, add a cookie consent mechanism to the site, and update the “last updated” date above.
